Rehab Science: How to Overcome Pain and Heal from Injury

Alleviate Pain. Rehabilitate Injuries. Move Better!

At some point in your life, you will experience pain and suffer from injury. But you are not powerless. Your body is not fragile. It is strong and adaptable. With the right education, exercise strategies, and mindset, you can figure out what’s wrong and take the first steps toward healing. That is exactly what you will learn how to do in Rehab Science.

In this book, you will gain:

  • A foundational understanding of pain science—and how to treat both acute and chronic pain conditions
  • The ability to systematically address injuries—identify the type of injury you have and implement the right methods and exercises
  • Step-by-step programs for improving movement and mobility and increasing strength and tissue capacity
  • Pain-relieving and injury-healing strategies, including soft tissue massage, stretching, mobility, and resistance exercise
  • The confidence and education to make informed decisions—like whether or not to get surgery
  • Insight on how to prevent injuries and future flare-ups

Being armed with such knowledge removes the fear and anxiety associated with pain and injury and frees you up to take charge of your health. Because there are solutions. Whether you have pain from unknown causes, you sustained an injury, or you have chronic pain and nothing else has worked, the protocols give you a clear blueprint to follow. Simply go to the body region where you feel pain or have an injury, choose the protocol that matches your symptoms or condition, and start following the three-phase exercise program.

This book provides 30 programs for the most common pain and injuries in every body region:

  • Low back pain
  • Sprain and strains—including ankle and wrist sprains, hamstring strains, and whiplash
  • Nerve pain—such as sciatica, carpal tunnel, herniated discs, and lumbar stenosis
  • Tendinopathies—like tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, hip flexor, gluteal, and patellar tendinopathy
  • Ligament and tendon tears—Achilles, rotator cuff, hamstring, groin, ACL, MCL, LCL, and PCL
  • Shoulder and hip impingements
  • Dislocations and labral tears
  • Meniscus tears
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Shin splints
  • Arthritis—neck, knee, and hip
  • And much, much more

If you want the power to get out of pain and rehab your injury—and to do as much as possible on your own—look no further than Rehab Science.

This book is exactly what I’ve been looking for to help my clients continue their rehab. I’m a licensed Massage Therapist and love how this book breaks down each pain, injury, and the steps needed to regain function and movement. I work on a lot of athletes and so far I’ve been able to recommend a rehab movement in either phase 1/2/3 to my clients. Highly recommend for all modalities!

Not only are the programs in this book extremely easy to execute, they are also highly effective. Additionally, when I have experienced any issues that are not specifically addressed in the book, I have reached out to Tom on Instagram to learn which protocol to follow to address the issue. He is very responsive. I believe he truly wants to help others feel better and keep moving.

This book is extremely useful for two reasons .

    1) if you have an injury, it really goes into detail as to what you can do for it. You can compare it to what your current PT person is doing, and you can also build on it.

    2) great background, information and simple explanation of the way your body works. And almost all of the physical therapy explanations, as well as the other procedures, you can do to help with recovery and healing gives it super simple explanation of why those methods work or do not work.

As a 52 year old recreational athlete (run, swim, weights), I have constantly got some overuse or imbalance injury. Trying to get a health ins referral to a PT quickly is an uphill battle. For the price of a couple copays I have essentially a PT consult in my own home! This book is an amazing resource to help me narrow down my injuries, figure out the mechanics of why and get to work rehabbing. The writing is a perfect mix of technical but written for a novice to understand and feel like they have a good picture of what’s going on and how to rehab. Really an amazing complete resource- can’t recommend highly enough!

Absolutely love having this resource to heal myself and my friends who are aging. I bought the book and the kindle to take around with me. I’ll be honest; I’m a grappler and I’ve been through a lot of physical therapy. Some in the hospital and one out of pocket. I’m used to more intense physical therapy to heal me but this book has a great list of exercises for all walks of life and I’m learning a great deal about the anatomy and physiology of pain. I wish Dr Walters would add in beast position scapular presses and such. That really healed my chronic nerve pain in my back. Thank you for this invaluable resource!

I preordered this book 12-25-22, and just received it yesterday. It didn’t disappoint, and is was well worth the wait. This book is thoroughly complete, from explaining aspects of pain and injury to rehabilitation. Rehab is further divided into sections of the body, with protocols and descriptions of each phase of recovery. It is written so the average non-medical person can easily understand the directions. You learn what each phase is, why it’s important, and photographs to guide you thru each move. The photographs accompanying each movement are extremely helpful. Each protocol is complete, from position to number of reps to how often to perform. This format is consistent throughout the book, making it easy to follow.
For all you Anatomy geeks out there (like me), the illustrations of the bones, nerves, muscles, and pain areas are all brilliantly illustrated and easy to understand.

On another note, the book is arranged simply and perfectly. The photography and illustrations are superb, and complete. The paper is high quality, and although bound (not spiral), it lies perfectly open if it’s lying on the floor next to you. Everything is in color, font is easy to read, sentences are nicely spaced. At the end of the book, there is both an index, as well as an exhaustive list of references.

This book was not rushed, but painstakingly and superbly put together to help us all understand the aches, pains, pops and cracks we endure to stay fit. I am thrilled to have this in my library, and kudos to both Dr. Tom Walters and Glen Cordoza for producing a fabulous book. I am so grateful.

Might be my new favorite (most updated) rehab book to date! I’ve been searching for a good resource for a while. Enter Tom Walters for publishing this monster of a book. It has TONS of new and good information on:✅ Pain Science: different types of pain, acute versus chronic, how to overcome it.✅ different types of injuries on different body regions✅ the most commonly used rehab tools, equipment and protocols, self care techniques, including phases of training! It’s a no brainer. It’s hardbound with high quality full color pages. It looks great in your library, too! From Tom Walters: “We really wrote it with both groups in mind. I wanted to create a book that the general population could read and learn about pain and injuries, and then have exercise programs they could start implementing. I also wanted to create a book for medical and movement professionals that could serve as a useful therapeutic exercise resource.”If you want to expand your knowledge in rehab sciences and you’re a clinician, coach/trainer or someone who like to do physical therapy with easy to follow principles: Full stop.
