Living Pain Free: Healing Chronic Pain with Myofascial Release–Supplement Standard Medical Approaches with Simple, Effective Exercises You Can Do Yourself

A leader in myofascial release therapy (MRT) shares non-invasive, medication-free techniques, stretches, and exercises for managing your chronic pain.

Break the chronic pain cycle and rebalance the body so it can heal itself!

This indispensable self-help guide is for anyone suffering from chronic pain and struggling to understand why standard medical approaches have failed them. Taking a mind-body approach, the book clearly and simply explains how chronic pain develops, and why an understanding of fascia—the main connective tissue in the body—is the key to restoring pain-free movement and health. Author and myofascial release expert Amanda Oswald informs readers about the role of fascia in chronic pain and empowers them to help themselves through simple and effective self-care techniques, stretches, and exercises.

Living Pain Free is a must-read for anyone experiencing chronic pain from conditions including migraines and headaches, repetitive strain injury (RSI), jaw (TMJ) pain, frozen shoulder, neck and back pain, chronic pelvic pain, scar tissue, and systemic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, and myofascial pain syndrome. It will also benefit anyone interested in understanding chronic pain from a myofascial perspective.

I bought this book for my wife who has been in chronic pain for 6 years now and has been passed from one specialist to another with no results. She was recently told there is no more they can do and she has been referred to the Pain Clinic to help manage it.
The specialist who referred her recommended reading this book. It describes her symptoms to a tee. So we have begun our fascial journey today.

Amanda has done a fantastic job to explain the function of fascia in the body and how it is impacted by our lifestyles. I came to read the book as I had surgery and chronic pain, but I think so much of this information is valuable for office workers or anyone who has repetitive strain through work and/or sports; for those people who start feeling tightness and small aches, before it becomes something bigger. Amanda give tips and exercises to help yourself. Fascia is fascinating and wonderful and the best bit, once you know how it works, you can release tension and it will make you feel so much better!

I wouldn't class this a book you would read from start to finish all in one go, as it is very informative on all things to do with Myofacial release, the history as well as explaining all about Chronic Pain covering the whole of the body. As well as activities, stretches and exercises. I am still working through this book and learning so much as I read through it.

My daughter loves it. She is doing myofacial release therapy with home exercises, the only thing that has helped with upper body pain, neck and some headaches. It has been a long road for her with medications and trigger point injections, and even spinal blood patches for CSF leakage. Consultations at UCSF, Cedars Sinai and Stanford led to dead ends or mere guesswork. No formal diagnosis in the end. Myofacial Release, a little acupuncture and hot tubs or warm water were in the end all that seems to give relief.
