Learn how to reboot your metabolism, build strength, and extend your life with this accessible new guidebook that demonstrates the importance of muscle for health and longevity from the founder of the Institute for Muscle-Centric Medicine®.
After years of watching patients cycle through her practice, Dr. Gabrielle Lyon noticed a pattern. While her patients struggled with a wide range of conditions, they all suffered from the same core problem: they had too little muscle rather than too much fat.
When we think about muscle, we tend to think about strength or aesthetics, but in reality, muscle accounts for so much more than that. As the body’s largest endocrine organ, muscle actually determines everything about the trajectory of health and aging. Many of the conditions Dr. Lyon’s patients were experiencing were actually symptoms of underdeveloped or unhealthy muscle.
Now, Dr. Lyon offers an easy-to-follow food, fitness, and self-care program anchored in evidence and pioneering research that teaches you how to optimize muscle—no matter your age or health background. Discover how to overcome everything from obesity to autoimmune disorders and avoid diseases like Alzheimer’s, hypertension, and diabetes by following Dr. Lyon’s powerful new approach to becoming forever strong.
As we age, we start to lose muscle mass. Muscle is the organ of longevity. Having healthy muscle helps us age stronger, with reduced risk of disease, falling, and obesity.
Healthy protein intake along with resistance training can help us keep our muscle mass as we age. Dr. Lyon gives step by step instruction and great recommendations for how to do it.
If more people read this book and follow her advice, we could have a stronger, healthier, less disease ridden aging process, which is so desperately needed in today's world.
I love not only the health information about diet changes and training sessions, but Dr. Lyon also includes a "Mindset Reset" section at the end of each chapter. The information included there is so helpful for getting past the excuses that come up when it seems hard to make changes in my diet and workout routines. Dr. Lyon shares personal experiences as well as the experience of her patients of how they persisted despite mental and physical challenges when taking a muscle-centric approach to health. It's very inspiring!
I'm also grateful that Dr. Lyon includes lots of recipes with ideas to help me increase my protein intake.
I read on. And I come to see that Dr. Lyon is pulling all the conflicting information together and laying it out in a logical, scientific and psychological format. These are the nutrients you need to build muscle; muscle building is what you need to be able to live a longer, more active life. Here are the tools to make it happen. Here is how to build your mind and will to be able to overcome all the obstacles you have been facing. Even as I find questions along the way - how in the world do I do that exercise? for example - a few pages later I find a clear description. And all along the way are links (in my kindle edition) to find more tools and connections. I am only on the cusp of getting near the end of this book, but already I have used the information provided to start monitoring my nutrition and I am excited to have some actual doable direction with my exercise (I must admit to being one of those who never seems to get a plan for strength training in place, I just bounce from exercise to exercise).
There are no shortcuts here - no magic pills. But if you want to get healthy, here is some sound guidance. And finally, the entire focus of building muscle rather than losing fat as the focus feels so much more positive and possible!
I highly recommend this book to everyone who cares about how you feel, how you age from brain to physical capacities, and living with more strength/resilience. She’s a real one with genuine care for people to thrive.
The facts presented and the stories of treated patients are heart warming and inspirational. The best part is you can start this at ANY age or whatever your background is. As she says, it's never too late to start. The shocking thing shown in the book is a continued practice shown to have no benefits of 17 conditions studied in a results published in 1999. Dr. Lyon's approach should be adopted in every aspect of treatment. This is revolutionary!
Menopause is brutal and my once petite, muscle-y frame turned into a jiggly, squishy mess. Mental well being was in the trench.
Struggling to understand what was going on and reading multiple resources for answers, I've found in this book Forever Strong, what I've been looking for.
The book has the tools to get me on the right track along with simple and effective methods and answers to the questions have been trying to find. This book is great for someone just learning about their health, wanting to improve their eating habits, exercise instructions and look their best and learn to look and feel healthy.
Body building was a activity that I loved. But now that I'm older I'm not needing those guidelines.
This book has a perfect outline for me and my goals.
Thank you Dr. Lyon, you will be reaching so many individuals with all the research and dedication you have shared.
It’s evidence based yet accessible to anyone that may not have past exposure to nutrition and fitness information. Her protocol is workable and straightforward. I can’t wait to share this book with others. I especially appreciated how she tailored her muscle-building and nutrition approach to stages of life and actionable steps we can start today.
bold…

changing the narrative to what’s really going on in health.
muscle is the longevity of life…
she will be my DR…soon.
Thank you so much for writing this, I love reading it and can’t wait to be forever strong!
One of my favorite quotes from the book, "By understanding muscle as the key to longevity and taking action to rebalance the effects of losing and gaining muscle, you can slow the process of aging," perfectly encapsulates the essence of this work. Dr. Lyon's Lyon protocol offers a practical and science-based approach to achieving a more youthful, healthier lifestyle.
The book places a strong emphasis on the importance of high-quality protein and exercise as integral components of this lifestyle. Dr. Lyon doesn't just rely on anecdotes; she backs her claims with extensive scientific knowledge and studies. This evidence-based approach gives the book a level of credibility that is hard to find in the world of health and wellness literature.
Moreover, "Forever Strong" delivers a message of hope for those who might believe it's too late to make positive changes in their lives. Dr. Lyon's reassuring words make it clear that it's never too late to increase muscle, enhance one's overall health, and, ultimately, age with grace.
This book is not just a compelling read; it's a guide to transforming your life. I highly recommend "Forever Strong" to anyone who's ready to take control of their aging process and embrace a healthier, more vibrant future. Dr. Gabrielle Lyon's wisdom will undoubtedly change the way you approach your well-being.
It was not easy, but it was also not hard! This protocol information is worth every penny you spent and every minute you took to read it.
Btw I rarely leave reviews but I sincerely want as many (women) as possible to have this info.
Thanks to Dr Lyon!
Forever Strong includes
• The importance of skeletal muscle, its many functions, and its role in health and longevity.
• How to design a nutrition plan including macros, meal plans, and recipes.
• How to design an exercise plan, including various assessments (including blood work), a comprehensive exercise plan, and instructions for each exercise.
The book includes interesting sidebars with case studies and pieces on developing a mental framework to help you realize your health goal. The unit on nutrition includes an explanation on how to evaluate and weigh scientific nutritional evidence.
The only part of the book I found difficult was the detailed written exercise instructions (without illustrations). There are times when a picture (or a video) is worth 1,000 words. And for me, that is often the case with exercise instruction. So, one may want to search for video examples of the exercises on YouTube.
In my opinion, this is a good book for health professionals, health coaches, and personal trainers who want to stay at the forefront of best nutrition practices. It’s also good for health and fitness enthusiasts willing to track calories and macros to get their nutrition dialed in.
