Over the last couple of decades I have probably purchased 20 of these. 3 for my self, when I can't find the old one; the rest for friends and family when there backs hurt.

    This is the first book on back pain that has been able to help both me and my daughter. I have suffered from long-term sciatica and I began to feel improvements just in the first couple of weeks with the exercise program. With increased flexibility I could feel the pain waning day-by-day. My daughter has studied dance and has ongoing back stiffness whenever she rehearses or performs. Dr. Vad's program is now part of her every day and the problems have not recurred. Many books over-complicate, but this book keeps it comprehensible with very specific guidance. I've recommended this book to everyone I know who has any back pain. Do his exercises and avoid the knife and avoid pills!

    Excellent system from a doctor who advises the PGA and LPGA

    My friend gave me this book when she saw that I could barely walk, had a hard time getting in and out of the car, couldn't sleep, would have terrible pain walking off a curb and could not even reach for something on an upper shelf. The exercises in this book have changed my life. For the first two or three weeks I could only do the first 8 exercises and some of them required the support of a pillow or two. I started out on May 12. Along with these exercises I participated in a deep water exercise class two to three days a week. Initially I could not do a lot of it, but did what I could. Today is July 30 and I am now doing a combination of the exercises for series A, B and C without any pain. Last week I was able to play three rounds of golf while on vacation. Yesterday and today I was able to do a thirty minute hike. I know that I will continue to do these exercises for my whole life as it has made such a huge difference! And, Yes, I have sent this book to several friends as well. Thank you for making my life so much better again. I am just too young to feel that old.

    I developed back pain at least five years ago and had to have a spinal cortisone shot for a bulging disk at that time. I found this book and it encouraged me to take charge of my back health. I've followed the program with daily 15 minute programs and so far my back is very good. No more spinal shots! I bought this copy for my daughter and son-in-law who have recently developed back problems. I hope they follow it, too.

    Back Rx is the companion to Dr. V.J. Vad's small but powerful book of the same title, which I owned but loaned out and never saw again. The exercises are simple and may seem not to be doing much but within 3 days of starting them, I felt relief. Back and hip muscles are relaxing and so am I. I liked the book but I like this DVD just a bit better. Just one note, the voice over sometimes goes faster than I can get the position and repetitions done so I keep my remote by my side and just pause it so I can take my time on each position. Other than that, this DVD is a god send for anyone with lower back pain.

    Back Rx saved my back. After 1.5 years treatment by chiropractor, I was still in pain from a lateral subluxation of the lower lumbar. I was desperate for relief, and believed I should be able to rehabilitate myself. I was in my early 20's, and researched yoga at the University library. That's when I found Dr. Vad's book "Back Rx": the secret to ending low-back pain. After several years of practicing Back Rx from the book, I got the video. I rely on Back Rx to loosen up my back whenever it feels tight, and to strengthen my back as preventative care. I will always have to stay disciplined in preventing low-back pain because of the combination of a severe hip dislocation with my back injury, but at least I have the tools to live a completely active and (when practicing Back-Rx) pain-free lifestyle.

    This is an excellent resource for people with lower back problems! I do these exercises every morning and they have helped tremendously. Dr. Vad combines medically designed poses for lower back strengthening with yoga breathing and Pilates core building. These exercises are not difficult, start with Series A (very gentle for post-surgery or injury), and follow up with Series B, then Series C; each becomes more challenging and more beneficial. Instructions are very clear, photographs are helpful. I can highly recommend this book for anyone with any sort of back problem.

I bought this book and committed to 20 minutes of gentle stretching/strengthening per day and within a few weeks was feeling great. The exercises are grouped for 3 levels of fitness: the first is suitable for someone who's a train wreck and/or just had back surgery. The second is is for average people like me, and the third is for athletes wanting to get back to top form.

    Great book, and one that gets results. My husband and I are both doing the "Series A" set of exercises 3 times a week and they are really making a difference. We have tried all sorts of other exercise routines but they were either too hard to do or did not get the job done. These, however, are do-able and just enough challenge to make a difference. We liked the beginning of the book where Dr. Vad explains things so clearly. Then we use the book (on our kindles) each day we do the exercise. Very well done and the photos help us remember what exercise we are doing and proper stance, etc. I don't like to "exercise" but this is one program I have been able to stick with.

    I ordered this book after an L-4 L-5 herniated disk and subsequent stenosis that manifested in debilitating sciatica. When surgery was recommended by a specialist, I wanted to try alternatives first. Six months later, I am mostly pain free and have gained back 90% of my mobility. This is an excellent book for those, like myself, who are not insured for out patient surgery and subsequent physical therapy and need a common sense alternative to try first. Not a substitute for medical treatment, but it worked for me for now.

    I have gotten so much use from this book that I have bought at least four or five other copies for friends with back problems. I haven't has a back issue for a while now and a lot of that is because this book is about getting your back stronger and keeping it that way. The exercises are simple, relaxing, don't require a lot of time. You can do them at home and it is easy to add them to either your wake-up or bedtime routine.

    About 18 months ago, I had a significant fall (from a rope swing that broke) resulting in trauma to my back, both what a physical therapist termed a "disc issue" (I think he wasn't allowed to diagnose what sort) and some sort of severe muscle strain. The result was that I could barely walk for a week, and had terrible pain and spasms whenever I would lay down or turn a certain way. I tried drugs (a course of steroids did help a good bit) and physical therapy. There was some overlap in this book to the exercises my PT gave me, but the overall program in this book has done wonders for me. I can run again, even jump on the trampoline with my son! The spasms are near completely gone. I notice if I don't do it for a week, so you have to make it a part of your routine (at least I need to). I think it's helped my posture too, as a side note. In short, everyone who ever mentions 'back pain' to me, gets recommended this book. Just give the book time. I suggest starting with the most basic exercises even if you think they are too easy, and make sure you pay attention to your breathing as it suggests. Hope it helps!

    I have been using it for sever back pain and seem to be seeing results begin to show . Must be used with care as the book teaches to prevent to prevent more injury.

I have been diagnosed with advanced degenerative osteoarthritis, and outside of taking pain pills & anti-inflammatories, I have found no relief until Vijay Vad. SOOOO glad he has published!

    I confess I'm only into my third week of using this program but felt the positive effects within days. However it should be titled the 25 minute a day program! I can't seem to get through the series of exercises any faster than that, so give yourself enough time to be thorough with each exercise. You'll be happy to be doing something positive for your back and yourself!

    After years of going to the chiropractor every few months, I finally decided to get serious about stretching and excercising and this was the book I chose to guide me. Informative, clear, and well written. Easy to follow. The progressive stage approach walked me through recovery from back injury. I have more flexibility than I've had in years and I know I've avoided at least two chiropractor sessions because of what following this book has done for my body. Highly recommended.

    Update 03MAY16 - It has now been four years since my last chiropractor visit. I do the simple 10-minute routine from this book four times a week and I credit that for my back health.

    Update 07MAR18 - Learned recently that the Superman pose is not recommended. Fine with me; I hated that one. Replaced it with Bird Dog and I'm happy. If I make it until July, that will be six years since my last chiro visit.

    Update 22OCT20 - Now over 8 years and still no chiropractor visit because of doing the exercises in this book. I've let others borrow this book and haven't seen it in months, but I memorized the simple routine years ago. Just remember: say "no" to Superman.

    I've only used these DVDs maybe ten times because the improvement in my back is so great that I don't feel like I need to do the exercises anymore, although I know I should still be doing them. The Back Rx program is effective, inexpensive theropy.

    I really messed up my back trying to help build a house 3 months after spending a couple of months in bed after surgery and pneumonia (I am in in my 70s).

    I cannot take anti inflammatory drugs and have been in very severe pain. Although I have done yoga for many years, the pain has been too much to even start on that. By following the very low stress exercises in this book I have started to improve (at about 1%/day!) I hope that another 3 months will get me back to almost where I was before I messed up!

    I saw Dr. Vad on a WNET public TV fund-raising show and decided to purchase this book. While much of the content mirrors what Dr. Vad said during the program, the exercises provide a practical guide to a key component of how we can all care for our back. I was already familiar with the benefits of doing Yoga and Pilates exercises prior to reading this book but found the exercises described in this book to be presented in a very readable and easy-to-learn manner. Devotion to this program will bring relief to those of us who suffer from back pain.

    8 years of back pain which had eventually become chronic. I tried all the o's; osteo, chiro, physio but with only short term success, and I read a lot of literature on the physiology of the back. A yoga instructor friend of mine recommended this book to me and I started using it daily. After 12 months I was pain free and returned to doing all the sports I love such as skiing, running and golf. 5 years on and I still use Back Rx 2 or 3 times a week to keep my back tuned in and even just as relaxation. At 15 minutes a day its easy to find the time.

    Not all back pain is the same and some needs more than exercise, particularly if skeletal based rather than muscular. However, if you're prepared to commit the time (12 months) to let this book work it is far and away the best thing you'll ever buy for your back.

    I am 34 years old and have a very physical job in habitat restoration/native plant gardening. I bought this book while recovering from a lower back injury that had me waylaid for a month. The book provides a series of exercises for those who've just had a traumatic injury but also for those who wish to prevent future injury. I was in considerable pain when I first started the exercises. I immediately felt better after my first 20-minute exercise session with the book. I continued the do exercises and after a week, I was 90% better.

    That was three years ago. Since then, I've continued to do the exercises whenever I feel the slightest bit of back strain. And as the book encourages, I periodically do the exercises when I'm bored or just happen to be lying on the floor. I've done the exercises so much that I don't even need the book anymore. I've memorized them all. I've lent the book out and recommended it many times.

    If you have regular back pain or have suffered a lower back injury, I can't recommend this book enough.
